Things I Love

There are three things in this photo that I love:

  1. Large, stand-alone bathtub. (I prefer claw foot.)
  2. Exposed brick on the interior walls.
  3. Big windows with lots of natural light.

Yes, I wish I was there right now.

New Headboard & A Book You Should Look At!

So I am now the new proud owner of a headboard. I don't think I've had one since I was a small child (with the exception of those years with a daybed). I bought this large, Broyhill, solid wood headboard off of Craigslist last night for only $60. It was a steal! It just so happens to be stained in a cherry finish which matches my nightstand and my dresser (not pictured). However, I'm going to be painting all 3 pieces black next weekend. I can't wait! I'm sure I'll post before and after photos because by the time the pieces are painted, I'll be moving into my new apartment and I'll be wanting to show that off. So, I can now scratch "get headboard" off my To Do List. Woohoo! :)

My new blue duvet will be delivered either later today or Monday, so I'm excited about that as well.

In other news, I came across this post on Apartment Therapy today that really intrigued me. I would sum up what the post is about, but I'd just be reiterating what they're saying and trust me, they say it much better than I ever could. So please click on "this post" and check it out yourself.

I couldn't have said it better myself when AT said:
"If you watched the endless footage of flooding in the Midwest on television last night, you probably wondered - as I did - if this was a freak of nature or the shape of things to come. And then you might have thought - as I did - that if it IS global warming what the hell is going to stop it."

I worry more and more every day as I watch the evening news what this world is coming to. I wonder if there will even be a world for my children to live in. Should I start building my underground bomb shelter now? Ironically it'd be to protect me more from floods, dangerous UVB rays, low air quality and poisonous food more than it would be to protect me from a bomb. How weird that feels to say and yet, it's our reality.

What is this world coming to? And how are we going to rise up and stop it?

Refuge

As you might have guessed it, I am crazy about Apartment Therapy(.com). I jump on line every day and check out what eye candy it has to offer me for design inspiration. I admit that I look at the photos more often than I read the articles. However, today their lovely outdoor photo caught my attention, and since I happen to be dreaming of creating a nice outdoor space of my own in my new apartment, I read.
This photo (courtesy of AT) makes me wish I was addicted to morning coffee. :)

The article: 'Where's Your Refuge?'

I found it funny that most people had the same answer I did. It's either an outdoor space or the bath tub. :) There's nothing better than sitting outside, sun warming your body, reading a good book or magazine and enjoying all the 'outdoor' noises and fresh air. Or laying in a tub full of hot water, some good music on, candles lit and completely escaping for about 30 minutes.

So, in the same fashion as AT today, I ask, where's your refuge?
(And if you bathe with music too, what's your music of choice? Mine is Sarah McLachlan.) :)

Trend?

Am I missing something? Why is it that in a majority of the 'Small Cool 2008' entries on Apartment Therapy do people have this ikea cabinet as their entertainment center?

I have seen it in so many of the entries. Is it really that great of a piece of furniture? To me it just looks like a gym locker or a filing cabinet. And yet somehow, it manages to mix just right with the french decor look like in the above photo.

Man, for a girl who used to want to be a interior decorator, I obviously have no style. :)

Rug Love

I love this rug! It in no way goes with my current decor, but I love it anyway. I'll have to put it on my "One Day List". (First I need to make the list...)

According to sources, this rug cost $4000. (No, I did not forget a decimal point.) It's been featured on Apartment Therapy before, but today they informed us of how Daily Danny wants to create his own version of this rug DIY style at a fraction of the cost. He plans to purchase vintage rugs at flea markets and then patch pieces together using hemp string. You can follow his progress on his blog.

I'll be watching to see how this project goes. If all goes well...maybe I will 'one day' attempt this DIY project myself!

Did I mention I love this rug? :)

Apartment Therapy's Color Contest

I love Apartment Therapy. I found their site a long time ago when I was searching for ways to decorate my small, one bedroom apartment.
Although, they generally focus on the modern style of interior decorating and design, and I'm not really on the same wave length, I still can appreciate it and get ideas from time to time.
If anything, I just adore visiting the site so I can drewl over all the pictures and wish I had money like all these people seem to have. :)
Well, it's time for their Annual Color Contest, which I am super excited about. There is almost nothing better than getting to view pictures of people's beautiful homes from all over the states. I save a lot of the photos to my computer so I can go back and view for inspiration and ideas.

Here are just a few of my favorites so far:
